A mob allegedly thrashed two men in Bihar’s Rohtas district on Wednesday for carrying meat, following which a clash broke out between members of two communities, reported PTI. The police are yet to make any arrests.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Dehri Mohammad Anwar Javed Ansari said a crowd allegedly stopped Noor Mohammad and Mohammad Shakeel in Akodhigola locality when they were on their way to sell meat in a market in Nasriganj. Ansari said the men were beaten up and their motorcycle was damaged. The police rushed to the spot and took the two men to a hospital.
The situation in the area was tense because of a clash that had erupted earlier in the day. The altercation had started after a few local people objected to an insignia related to the festival of Muharram that was allegedly put up on the premises of a temple.
“Those involved in blocking roads and rioting were being identified with the help of video footage and strict action would be taken against them after lodging cases,” the Hindustan Times quoted Ansari as saying.
