Two men allegedly stabbed to death a 28-year-old Dalit man in Haryana’s Ranwar village in Karnal district on Wednesday, reported the Hindustan Times.
According to the police, the accused attacked Rajiv Kumar with weapons in a shop. Kumar was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Kumar’s relative, Mahender Singh, has accused two “upper caste” men – Vicky and Parv Kumar – both residents of the same village of the murder. He alleged that the police were not taking any action even though Dalits are being targeted. Singh also demanded compensation for Kumar’s family.
The deceased man’s family members held a protest by blocking the village road and demanded that the accused be arrested.
Gharaunda Deputy Superintendent of Police Virender Saini said a First Information Report has been registered against the two men based on a statement of Kumar’s family members and the police were moving to arrest them. Kumar’s family members called off the protest after Saini’s assurance. The body was then taken for autopsy.
