Cashew nuts have been removed from the list of food items served by Sri Lanka’s national airline after the country’s president found them “so bad even a dog wouldn’t eat it”, AFP reported on Wednesday. While speaking at a farmers’ event on Monday, Maithripala Sirisena expressed outrage at the nuts and demanded to know “who approves these things”.

Two days later, the debt-laden SriLankan Airlines said it had stopped serving cashews and would change its Dubai-based supplier. Cashews were served only to business-class passengers.

On Monday, Sirisena said: “Returning from Kathmandu, I was served some cashews on board a SriLankan flight, but it was so bad even a dog wouldn’t eat it. I want to know who authorised the purchase of these nuts.”

“Who is responsible for this?” he added, according to the BBC.
