A Lashkar-e-Taiba militant was killed and a policeman injured during an attack on a police picket in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district late on Friday night, PTI reported quoting police.
The militant has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat from Tatripora Yaripora in Kulgam district, reported Kashmir Reader, quoting a police statement. Bhat reportedly joined the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit three months ago.
The police also foiled a bid to snatch weapons, according to ANI. The injured police officer has been taken to hospital, where his condition stabilised.
A police official said militants attacked a police picket in Achabal town on Friday night. During the retaliation, a militant was killed and a policeman was injured. The militant’s weapon was also recovered, the official said.
“His [Bhat’s] involvement was also established in a weapon snatching case earlier,” an unidentified police officer said. “He was involved in carrying out attacks on the security forces and civilian atrocities in the area.”
Search operations are currently underway to find the other suspected militants.
