An MiG-27 plane of the Indian Air Force crashed in a field near Deoria village in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Tuesday morning, reported ANI. The pilot of the jet managed to eject safely and was taken to a hospital.
“Police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area,” Jodhpur East Deputy Commissioner of Police Amandeep Singh Kapoor told PTI. “Indian Air Force investigating team has also reached the spot.”
The single-seater aircraft had taken off from the Indian Air Force’s Jodhpur airbase minutes before the crash. The aircraft was on a routine mission, defence spokesperson Colonel Sombit Ghosh said. It burst into flames immediately after crashing.
A court of inquiry will investigate the cause of the accident, said the Indian Air Force.
