United States Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on Thursday asked newly-elected Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to take decisive action against “all terrorists operating” in his country. Pompeo called Khan to wish him success, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said.

“Secretary Pompeo expressed his willingness to work with the new government towards a productive bilateral relationship,” Nauert said. “Secretary Pompeo raised the importance of Pakistan taking decisive action against all terrorists operating in Pakistan and its vital role in promoting the Afghan peace process.”

Khan was elected as prime minister on August 17. After claiming victory in the July 25 elections, he promised several reforms.

In August 2017, President Donald Trump had said Washington would not remain silent about Pakistan harbouring terrorists.
