Former Union minister and senior Congress leader Gurudas Kamat died at a private hospital in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri on Wednesday, ANI reported. Kamat is believed to have suffered a heart attack, News18 reported. He was 63.
Kamat was a Member of Parliament for the Mumbai North West constituency in 2009 and the Mumbai North East constituency in 1984, 1991, 1998 and 2004. He had also served as the president of the Congress’ Mumbai unit.
Party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala expressed his shock over Kamat’s death. “No words are enough to describe the sense of loss,” Surjewala tweeted. “My deepest condolences to his family, friends and followers. I pray for the departed soul.”
