Security forces killed a suspected militant in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara on Tuesday, reported ANI. The body is yet to be recovered.
The operation is currently under way.
Some reports claimed that the suspected militants attacked soldiers of the 30 Rashtriya Rifles while they were patrolling near the Yaroo area of Handwara’s Langate. The soldiers retaliated, which resulted in a gunfight. The militants fled soon after, following which a massive search operation was launched.
On August 18, the Indian Army killed three suspected militants while they were trying to cross the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector. Another infiltration bid in the area on August 13 had led to the death of Indian Army soldier Pushpendra Singh. The next day, the Army announced that two Pakistani soldiers were killed following ceasefire violations the previous night.
Last month, the Jammu and Kashmir Police killed a Pakistani militant belonging to the Lashkar-e-Toiba in an encounter in Handwara. Police said weapon and other incriminating materials were found from the militant.
