A 23-year-old Dalit woman in Madhya Pradesh was allegedly murdered on Monday by a man she had accused of sexual harassment. The incident occurred in the state’s Seoni town. The man, who was pressuring the woman to withdraw the complaint against him, attacked her while she was on her way to college, dragged her by the hair and smashed her head with a heavy stone, PTI reported.
The murder took place around noon near the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Government Girls College, where the woman studied, unidentified police officials said. Arvind Jain, the officer in charge of the Kotwali Police Station, said some people rushed to the scene of the crime and overpowered the accused. He was identified as 38-year-old Anil Mishra.
However, the woman, who was bleeding profusely, died on her way to the hospital. Seoni Sub-divisional police officer KK Verma said the accused had been arrested and investigation was under way.
