The Pakistan Army allegedly violated ceasefire late on Thursday by firing at forward posts of the Indian Army along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, PTI reported. The troops guarding the border retaliated and the firing went on till 5 am, officials said.
Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, the commander of the Army’s Northern Command, visited the forward areas, met the field commander and reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of the troops.
Earlier in the day, India told Pakistan that intrusions across the Line of Control have increased to the north of the Pir Panjal mountain range and asked Islamabad to take measures to prevent it, PTI reported. This matter was brought up when the director generals of Military Operations of the two armies held talks on the occasion of India’s Independence Day.
The Pakistani military official assured that his country’s Army would take prompt action against militants attempting to cross the the Line of Control.
In a separate incident on Thursday, four soldiers were injured in a gun battle with suspected militants in Kupwara district. An unidentified police officer told Global News Service Kashmir that the gunfight started after soldiers of the 8 Bihar regiment intercepted a group of suspected infiltrators near Sangam post at 9.20 am on Thursday. The injured soldiers were then shifted to an Army hospital in Srinagar.
