Wholesale price inflation cooled off to 5.09% in July from 5.77% in June, data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry showed on Tuesday. Wholesale inflation was 1.88% during the corresponding month in 2017. The figure in June was a four-year high because of higher food and fuel prices.
The prices of food articles reduced by 2.16% year-on-year in July on account of cheaper fruits and vegetables. Vegetable prices, which rose 8.12% in June, fell by 14.07%.
Fuel price index inflation jumped to 18.1% year-on-year in July against 16.18% in June. Manufacturing inflation stood at 4.26% in July against 4.17% last month.
Data released on Monday showed India’s consumer price index for July reduced to 4.17%. The consumer price index-based inflation, which measures the change in retail prices, was 4.92% in June.
