The Indian Army said on Monday that a soldier was killed while the force attempted to foil an infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. “The Chinar Corps commander and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of Sepoy Pushpendra Singh, who laid down his life in foiling an infiltration bid Tangdhar sector, and offer condolences to his family,” the Army said on Twitter.
The jawan was injured on Monday morning and was airlifted to Badami Bagh Hospital in Srinagar, Kashmir Reader reported. “However, despite strenuous efforts by the doctors, the soldier succumbed to his injuries,” unidentified Army officials said.
The officials told the daily that the incident was a “clear case of ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces”.
Two suspected militants were killed in an encounter with Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara district’s Lolab Valley on August 2. On July 26, another militant was killed in a gunfight with security forces.
