A government survey has ranked Pune first among 111 Indian cities in the Ease of Living Index. Navi Mumbai and Greater Mumbai are at the second and third spot while Delhi ranks 65. The rankings were announced by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday.
Tirupati, Chandigarh, Thane, Raipur, Indore, Vijayawada and Bhopal are the other cities in the top 10. Kolkata had refused to participate in the survey, Puri said, according to PTI.
The index ranked cities on the basis of governance, social institutions, economic and physical infrastructure. The top three cities on governance indicators were Navi Mumbai, Tirupati and Karim Nagar.
Tirupati, Tiruchirappalli and Navi Mumbai topped the list on social institutions. The index on economic indicators was led by Chandigarh, Ajmer and Kota. Greater Mumbai, Pune and Thane were adjudged to have the best physical infrastructure.
Greater Mumbai, Chennai and Surat were the top three cities among those with population of 40 lakh or above.
