An electrician has been arrested for allegedly raping a Class 2 student in a government-run school in Delhi, NDTV reported on Friday, quoting the police. A court sent the accused, who works in the school, to judicial custody for 14 days.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma told ANI that the girl had identified the man. He started working at the school two months back. “The spot where the incident took place had no CCTV camera,” Verma said, adding that the man was being questioned.

The alleged incident took place on Thursday in the school located in Gole Market area. The girl was on her way home when the accused took her inside the school’s water pumping room and allegedly assaulted her sexually, reported DNA.

The girl’s family lives near the school. The accused was arrested after the girl’s parents filed a first information report.

The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the chief secretary of the Delhi government and the city’s police commissioner asking for a report within four weeks. The Delhi Commission for Women too has issued notices to the police and the school over the incident, ANI reported.
