Security forces killed one more suspected militant on Thursday during an encounter that began the day before in the forests of Rafiabad in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, PTI quoted the Army as saying. With this, five suspected militants have been gunned down.
Army’s Public Relations Officer Colonel KR Panday said “weapons and warlike stores were recovered from the encounter site”, Kashmir Reader reported.
Director General of Police SP Vaid also confirmed the news. “5th terrorist fired in the morning [and] was neutralised soon after,” he tweeted on Thursday morning.
A joint team of the Army’s 32 Rashtriya Rifles and 9 Para Commandos came in contact with the suspected militants after they launched a cordon-and-search operation in Dooniwari forest early on Wednesday. The security personnel gunned down four suspected militants while a para commando was injured during the operation.
An unidentified police officer said the suspected militants are believed to have recently infiltrated across the Line of Control through the Uri sector.
