A court in Datia, Madhya Pradesh, took three days to convict and sentence a 24-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a six-year-old girl, the Hindustan Times reported. The court passed the order on Wednesday.
Special judge Hitendra Dwivedi sentenced Motilal Ahirwar under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Ahirwar was also convicted under Section 376AB (rape of a girl under 12 years of age) and 366 (abduction) of the Indian Penal Code.
He was found guilty of raping the girl on May 29 when she had gone to attend a relative’s wedding, said Datia Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi. “Ahirwar lured the girl with flowers and took her to a government school and raped her,” Awasthi was quoted as saying.
“The girl was found by her parents in the school in a semi-conscious state. She was taken to a doctor who said she had been raped.”
The man was arrested within a day of the incident.
“The judgement was pronounced on the basis of statements of 17 witnesses and a senior medical officer,” said prosecution officer Puspendra Garg, calling it one of the fastest trials in the state.
