The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Tuesday appointed journalist S Gurumurthy as a part-time, non-official director on the Reserve Bank of India’s central board for four years. Gurumurthy is the editor of the Thuglak magazine and co-convener of the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet also approved the name of Satish Marathe as a part-time, non-official director on the RBI’s central board for four years, Bloomberg reported.
“The RBI is one of the best central banks in the world,” Marathe, who Bloomberg called a “veteran in the cooperative sector”, told the news outlet. “It has led India through difficult times successfully, particularly during Venugopal Reddy’s period [as governor]. I have a strong background in the cooperative sector. I have worked in it for more than 40 years. We need to do a lot in the rural and agricultural sectors.
