A Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Kerala’s Kasargod district on Sunday night, said the police. The party alleged that workers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party were behind the murder.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Aboobacker Siddique, reported Manorama Online. The police said he was attacked by men on a motorcycle at Prathapnagar in Manjeswaram taluk around 11 pm. An unidentified officer told The New Indian Express that Siddique, who used to work abroad, had come home for vacation.
The police have deployed a large contingent of personnel in the region after the killing, reported The Indian Express. The CPI(M) has called for a strike in the taluk on Monday afternoon.
A number of activists belonging to the two parties have been attacked in the state over the past decade and a half. Though there are no official figures, data obtained from a Right to Information query showed that both the sides lost at least 30 workers each between 2000 and 2016. Kannur district alone reported 69 political murders in this period.
