The Congress on Saturday decided to attack the Narendra Modi-led government on the matter of corruption, by launching a public campaign to highlight the bank scams, the Rafale jet deal and the allegedly poor state of the economy. The Congress Working Committee took the decision at a meeting chaired by party President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi, PTI reported.

At the meeting, the leaders also chalked out a political strategy on the National Register of Citizens row. The NRC’s second draft left out 40 lakh people in Assam, leading opposition parties to attack the Centre.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said after the meeting that the details of the public campaign will be decided later, in consultation with state units of the party.

This is the second time Rahul Gandhi has chaired a meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body. The meeting was attended by former prime minister Manmohan Singh, AK Antony, Ghulam Nabi Aza, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ahmed Patel and Ashok Gehlot, PTI reported. But United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was absent.

At the first meeting chaired by Rahul Gandhi on July 22, the party authorised the party president to take decisions on pre-poll and post-poll alliances.
