The Supreme Court on Friday asked Attorney General KK Venugopal to compile holistic guidelines on video recording and live streaming of court proceedings, PTI reported. Venugopal has sought two weeks to collate inputs.

A bench of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud asked several people including advocate Indira Jaising to share her suggestions with Venugopal.

The court was hearing two pleas on the matter. Jaisingh has sought video recording of proceedings in important constitutional matters. The advocate said citizens deserve to be updated about matters of constitutional and national importance. A student of National Law University of Jodhpur has also filed a plea demanding live streaming of hearings in the top and increased courtroom access to legal interns.

The court will hear the matter next on August 17.

In July, the Centre told the Supreme Court that proceedings of cases heard by the Constitution bench and the chief justice’s court can be live-streamed initially on an experimental basis. In a previous hearing, the court had said it was in favour of live-streaming all court proceedings, except those of rape cases, matrimonial disputes and in-camera hearings.
