Security forces killed three militants in two separate encounters in Baramulla and Shopian districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, PTI reported.
On Friday morning, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Dursoo village in Baramulla’s Rafiabad area following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said. The security personnel retaliated after the militants fired at them. The two militants killed in the encounter were identified as Lashkar-e-Taiba members Riyaz Ahmed Dar and Khursheed Ahmed Malik.
An Indian Army soldier, who sustained injuries during the operation, succumbed in the afternoon. The jawan was identified as Sawar Vijay Kumar, reported ANI. A policeman also suffered injuries.
The local administration suspended mobile internet services and ordered educational institutions to remain shut after the encounter began.
In a gunbattle in Shopian, security forces killed an unidentified militant in the district’s Kiloora area, an Army official said. The security forces cordoned off the area following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants there, and started a search operation.
The operation is currently going on, an unidentified Army official told PTI.
