Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Working President MK Stalin on Thursday visited a restaurant in Chennai after videos circulating on social media showed his party workers assaulting the establishment’s employees. Stalin took to Twitter to condemn the incident.
Stalin and senior party leader A Raja enquired about their health. “Visited the hotel where employees were assaulted and consoled them,” Stalin tweeted. “There is no space for such condemnable acts in the DMK. I will not hesitate to take stringent action without any mercy against anyone who acts in a manner that brings a bad name to the party and lays waste the labour of lakhs of members.”
Videos showed a group of people beating the workers on Sunday purportedly after being told that the restaurant was closed. Soon after the videos went viral, DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan announced the suspension of party workers Yuvaraj and Divakar.
The police said they had arrested six people and were looking for a DMK worker who is among the accused, the Hindustan Times reported.
