Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Raja Singh on Tuesday said that Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshis are a “danger to India” and should be shot dead if they don’t leave the country. In a controversial video message, the legislator from Telangana also labelled them “pests”, saying there was no need to keep them in the country.
“Bangladeshis and Rohingya Muslims need to be sent back to their country,” Singh said to Times Now, asking the government to evict them.
He alleged that when other countries felt endangered by immigrants, they shot them. “In the same way, if Rohingyas and Bangladeshis do not leave the country respectfully, all of them need to be shot dead to ensure that our country stays safe,” he said.
The MLAs comments came a day after the Assam government published the final draft of the National Register of Citizens, which left out 40 lakh people.
Singh has made controversial statements earlier as well. In June, he referred to the Quran as “the green book” and said it was responsible for terrorism in India and should be banned. In February, he had said that people who do not attend daily meetings of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh shakhas are not true Hindus. He also said that if citizens were unwilling to say “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”, they were free to leave the country.
