The Rajasthan Police on Sunday said a seven-year-old girl, who went missing on Friday, was raped and murdered in Jhalawar district, ANI reported. No arrests have been made yet.
Her parents had lodged a police complaint after she went missing while playing outside her house. The incident took place on Saturday night, said the police. Her body was found near her home.
“Her body was sent for post-mortem and it has been established that she was raped and strangled to death,” ANI quoted Superintendent of Police Anand Sharma as saying. “We have formed a team to nab the accused.” The police have asked a forensic team from Kota to join the investigation, The Hindu reported.
Rajasthan Congress president Sachin Pilot accused the Vasundhara Raje-led Bharatiya Janata Party government of poor law and order in the state, NDTV reported. “Cases of rape are on the rise due to negligence of the government,” Pilot said. “Criminals are getting a conducive environment in the state due to the poor law and order situation.”
This is the second rape case reported in the district in the last five months. In February, a six-year-girl was found raped and murdered in a field in the district. Earlier this month, a retired railway employee was accused of molesting a teenage girl.
