The Delhi government on Friday ordered an inquiry into the death of 36 cows in a cowshed in Chhawla area over the last two days, ANI reported. The police said that initial investigation suggested that the bovines died of “some disease”, PTI reported.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said that they received a call reporting the incident at a cowshed in Gumanhera village. The cowshed, run by Acharya Sushil Gosadan Trust, has 1,400 cows. Rain water was found accumulated in and around the cowshed, according to a report in NDTV.
“The doctors are conducting the inquiry into the cause of death and they will also conduct postmortem of all the dead cows,” Alphonse told IANS.
Delhi minister Gopal Rai ordered that a report regarding the matter within 24 hours. It has been reported that the carcasses were lying in the cowshed, Rai’s order stated.
