Delhi Police on Wednesday said the body of a newborn was found in the lavatory of an AirAsia aircraft, PTI reported. A doctor from the airport’s medical team confirmed that the baby was delivered on board the flight that had arrived from Guwahati. A suspect has been detained.
The “premature dead foetus” was discovered when the aircraft was preparing to land at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The crew alerted the police, who detained a 19-year-old woman after questioning all the female passengers on board the flight, reports said. Some reports also claimed that the newborn was found with tissue stuffed in its mouth.
AirAsia said the matter has been reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. “We will be assisting in the investigation and cooperating with all agencies concerned. AirAsia India would like to apologise to all guests experiencing disruptions in their flight schedule,” the air carrier’s statement said.
