At least five people were killed in a fire at a residential building in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, early on Monday, ANI reported. A cooking gas cylinder explosion appears to have caused the fire, Additional District Magistrate Rajiv Kumar told the news agency.
The incident took place in Ner Chowk locality of the hill town.
Three fire tenders are at the spot and rescue operations are under way. Many people are feared trapped inside the building.
District Magistrate of Mandi, Rugved Thakur, told NDTV that the situation was under control. Chief Minister Jairam Thakur expressed his condolences.
