At least one person was killed and some were injured after a five-storey under-construction building collapsed near Dasna flyover in Ghaziabad’s Akash Nagar on Sunday afternoon, PTI reported.
The Ghaziabad Police said some labourers had been taken out from under the debris and were now in a nearby hospital.
Seven people have been rescued so far and sent to hospital, ANI reported.
Two teams from the National Disaster Response Force have been sent to the spot to carry out rescue operations. Policemen and fire department personnel are also present at the spot.
District magistrate Ritu Maheshwari told ANI that prima facie, there seemed to be problems with the “quality of the building”. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered, she said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath asked the district magistrate and the district police to visit the site of the incident and to file a case and take action against those guilty, ANI reported.
The incident came five days after nine people were killed as a building collapsed in Greater Noida’s Shahberi village. Four people were arrested in connection with the incident. Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate BN Singh has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and asked a report on the buildings within 15 days.
