Police on Saturday charged eight men under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act for drugging and raping a 16-year-old girl in Puducherry. The teenager knew one of the men, who had worked with her at a private firm.
The accused have been identified as Vicky, Mugilan, Kannadasan, Surya, Ashok, Deva, Kalai and P Surya, reported Hindustan Times. All are absconding.
A police complaint filed by the girl’s parents said that 20-year-old Vicky had raped her once earlier, filmed the incident, and shown the clips to his friends. On Tuesday, he abducted the girl and took her to a coconut farm in Kandampalayam near Villupuram in Tamil Nadu. “After giving her a severe dose of drugs, he called his friends and jointly repeated the cruelty again,” a senior police officer with Thirukkanur police station said.
Special police teams have been formed to catch the accused, reported The Times of India.
The teenager had informed her parents about the rape. They had gone to the children welfare committee in Puducherry who recorded her statement and then lodged a complaint with the jurisdictional police. A case has been registered under Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of POCSO.
The incident comes a week after 18 men were arrested for repeatedly raping an 11-year-old girl with a hearing disability in an apartment complex in Chennai over seven months.
