A Jammu and Kashmir police constable abducted by suspected militants from his home in Kulgam district’s Muthalhama village on Friday night was found dead on Saturday, the police said. The bullet-riddled body of constable Saleem Ahmed Shah was found in Qaimoh town, ANI reported.
“Our colleague Saleem Ahmed Shah was abducted and killed by terrorists in Kulgam,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted. “We condemn this cowardly act. We all stand by his family at this critical juncture.”
Shah, who had joined the department as a special police officer, was recently promoted to the post of constable, the Hindustan Times reported. He was undergoing training in Kathua.
Shah is the second policeman to be killed this month in this manner. The body of constable Javid Ahmad Dar, who was also abducted by suspected militants, was found in Kulgam on July 6. Dar had gone missing from Kachdoora village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district two days before that.
Meanwhile, the police in Sopore on Saturday said they have arrested two overground workers of the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit on Saturday and recovered a huge cache of ammunition.
