Suspected militants fired at Central Reserve Police Force personnel in Mattan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday. While Greater Kashmir reported that two troopers were injured, Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar said no one was injured in the attack.
The suspected militants reportedly fired at the troopers deployed along with the state police on the Khanabal-Pahalgam Road in Bumzoo. A senior police official told Kashmir Reader that a search operation is going on.
In another incident, a gunfight broke out along the Line of Control near Tony post in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district earlier in the day, Global News Service quoted Senior Superintendent of Police (Kupwara) Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar as saying.
An Army officer said the troops had launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants. As the search intensified, the group of suspected militants, believed to be infiltrators, opened fire. “Additional reinforcement has also been rushed to the site,” the officer said.
