The Central Board of Secondary Education is testing a system of encrypted question papers after the questions for a Class 12 and Class 10 examination were leaked earlier this year. The board is now trying out encrypted papers that can be downloaded the morning of the exams at test centres, The Hindu reported.

The board has faced flak after the questions for the Class 12 economics paper and Class 10 mathematics paper were leaked before the exams on March 26 and March 28. A re-test was held for the Class 12 paper, while the CBSE decided not to have one for the mathematics paper since it said the leak had occurred only in the Delhi region.

“…The board is deliberating on providing infrastructure at the examination centres,” CBSE secretary Anurag Tripathi said, The Indian Express reported. Tripathi said the board had tested the encrypted papers system for a Class 10 compartment exam, which is on a much smaller scale than the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams.

In Parliament on Thursday, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the CBSE has taken steps to ensure that another paper leak does not recur, after disaffiliating schools thought to be complicit in the leak this year, PTI reported. The minister made these remarks during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha.

“The board is examining various options to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” Javadekar said in response to a question by Samajwadi Party MP Revati Raman Singh about the leaks. “The government has constituted a High-Powered Committee to examine the entire system of conducting Class 10 and Class 12 CBSE examinations. The committee has recently submitted its report.”

The minister said steps are being taken to ensure that the guilty are punished, and that the examinations are made foolproof. He said the board is also trying to make the exams stress-free for students.
