Seven vehicles were washed away after torrential rain triggered a flash flood near Manali in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, the Hindustan Times reported. No loss of life has been reported so far.
The incident took place in Bran village, 5 km away from Manali, early on Wednesday. The debris of the flash flood also blocked the Kullu-Manali National Highway, NH 3, causing a traffic jam. A Public Works Department team was deployed to clear the highway.
Manali Sub-Divisional Magistrate Raman Gharsanghi told the daily that the vehicles washed away included six cars and a motorcycle. Six footbridges, a water supply line, an irrigation channel, and a watermill were also damaged.
Gharsanghi said that officials had evacuated houses near the area and moved residents to safer places. The administration has also warned the public as the Meteorological Centre in Shimla predicted heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places from Friday.
