The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday named Anurag Thakur its chief whip in the Lok Sabha, PTI reported. Thakur is a three-time member of the Lok Sabha from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.
He will replace Rakesh Singh, who was made the chief of the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit in April ahead of elections in the state. Thakur has earlier been the president of the party’s youth wing and the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
The Monsoon Session of the Parliament will start on Wednesday.
Union minister Ananthkumar congratulated Thakur, wishing him luck in his new role “in the service of Indian democracy”.
