At least 10 people were reported missing after a boat capsized in the Gautami river in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district on Saturday evening, the Hindustan Times reported. However, there was no official confirmation of the figure.
The incident occurred at Pasuvullanka near I Polavaram around 5 pm, The Hindu reported. More than 40 people, mostly students, were said to have been travelling in the boat, which may have hit a pillar of a bridge under construction before turning over. The local people rescued 10 people.
Thirty-five personnel from the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force are expected to reach the accident site soon.
