Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, who had quit the Congress in February 2014 after opposing the bifurcation of the state, rejoined the party on Friday. Reddy had founded the Jai Samaikyandhra Party after quitting the Congress.
“I am very happy that I am coming back to the Congress family,” Reddy said according to The Hindu. “Whatever identity I have got, it is because of the Congress.”
“Unless the Congress comes back to Delhi, justice will not be done to the Telugu people,” the former chief minister added. He accused the Centre, the Andhra Pradesh government and the Opposition of “failing miserably” in implementing the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
Reddy met Congress President Rahul Gandhi at his residence on Friday morning, The Indian Express reported. Later in the day, he joined the Congress in the presence of former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee chief N Raghuveera Reddy.
