The Indian benchmark indices rose for a fifth straight session on Thursday, with the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex closing at an all-time high and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty 50 maintaining a level above 11,000 points.
The Sensex closed at 36,548.41 points after reaching a lifetime high of 36,699.53 earlier in the day. The final level was up over 282 points from the previous close. The Nifty 50 ended 74.90 points higher at 11,023.20.
Reliance Industries, Wipro, Larsen & Toubro, HDFC and State Bank of India were the top gainers on the Sensex. Stocks of Vedanta, Infosys, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto and Mahindra and Mahindra were the stocks that lost most.
On the Nifty 50, Reliance Industries, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bajaj Finance, Wipro and Bajaj Finserv were the best performers. UPL, Vedanta, Bajaj Auto, Infosys and Grasim were the biggest losers.
The Indian rupee rose and ended the day at 68.52 against the dollar.
