Former Union minister ND Tiwari’s health is said to have deteriorated as “many of his organs” have failed, PTI quoted Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat as saying on Tuesday. Tiwari was shifted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Delhi on Saturday.
“ND Tiwari ji’s condition is extremely serious and many of his organs have now stopped working,” Rawat said. “More than medicines, he now needs blessings.”
On Sunday, Tiwari’s son Rohit Shekhar Tiwari said his condition was “extremely serious”. “His doctor said that he is suffering from acute bacterial infection in the stomach region and his kidneys stopped functioning on Saturday,” Rohit Shekhar Tiwari said.
Tiwari was admitted to a hospital in September after he suffered a stroke. He was placed on life support in a hospital in Delhi in November.
Tiwari is the only Indian to have served as chief minister of two states – Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. He also served as Minister of External Affairs in the Rajiv Gandhi cabinet. In 2009, he resigned as governor of Andhra Pradesh after a local news channel had allegedly broadcast explicit clips of him with three women in the Raj Bhavan.
Tiwari and his son Rohit had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2017.
