The Hyderabad Police have registered a First Information Report against Bharatiya Janata Party legislator T Raja Singh for supporting the assault last month on Dalit men near Gujarat's Una town for skinning a dead cow, reported India Today. In a video, the right-wing party leader was also heard endorsing such acts of violence against members of the Scheduled Caste, and anyone else who does not support gau raksha (cow protection).
In the two-and-a-half minute video titled "My comments on recent Una Dalit incident", the ruling party member is heard saying, "Those Dalits who were taking the cow, the cow meat, those who were beaten, it was a very good thing to happen." The video was uploaded on July 30.
He went to say, "I am asking those Dalits [who kill cows]. Is it necessary to murder cow and eat its meat? This is absolutely wrong. It is because of such galeez [dirty or disgusting] Dalits, that the image of whole Dalit community is tarnished." His comments were criticised by the opposition parties, including the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, who demanded strict action against the Hyderabad MLA.
