A woman was killed and at least five people were injured in a knife attack in central London on Wednesday night, reported BBC. The assailant was later arrested by the Metropolitan Police. However, the identity of the attacker or the motive behind the attack is not known yet.
The incident took place at Russell Square, close to the British Museum. The local administration tried to treat one of the victims, but she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Following the attack, several police personnel were deployed in the area.
A police spokesperson said, “Terrorism is one possibility being explored at this stage.” Investigators are yet to make a statement about the condition of the injured people. Earlier that day, Scotland Yard said they plan to add 600 armed officers to the patrolling team for London in view of the recent attacks in France and Germany, according to The Guardian.
