Two women were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting two Muslim women at Mandsaur railway station in Madhya Pradesh last week on suspicion of carrying beef, reported PTI. Superintendent of Police, Railway, Mahesh Jain said Rajni Tiwari alias Bitti and Manju Gurjar were picked up from Neemuch after they were identified on the basis of video footage. Earlier, the police had arrested four others. The women were later released after furnishing a surety of Rs 5,000 each.
The duo, who went missing after the incident on July 27, were booked under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Jain said they were not associated with any outfit.
The incident had taken place in front of police officers who were there to arrest the Muslim women for smuggling and trying to sell meat illegally. The loaf of 30kg meat that the women were carrying later turned out to be that of buffalo.The women were thrashed for nearly half-an-hour. A video capturing the incident had also gone viral after which Opposition parties created an uproar in the Rajya Sabha. The incident took place soon after four Dalit youths were beaten up in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Gujarat for skinning a cow.
