An Emirates aircraft crash-landed at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday after it experienced equipment failure, and caught fire during its landing, The Independent said. All 282 passengers and 18 crew members were evacuated from the aircraft and no casualties were reported. The area near the aircraft was also cordoned off, and all arrivals and departures from Dubai's international airport were temporarily suspended.
The flight EK 521, which was en route to Dubai from Thiruvananthapuram, began experiencing problems around 12.30 pm (local time). The exact cause of the accident is, however, unclear. Reports said the flight's landing gear possibly failed.
The airline will set up a help desk at the Thiruvananthapuram airport following the accident. It also said it was expecting a four-hour network-wide delay. Emirates Chairperson and Chief Executive Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum said, “Thankfully there were no fatalities among our passengers and crew.” Boeing also issued a statement saying that a technical team from the company was standing by in case its support was needed.
