Two members of the housekeeping staff at Artemis Hospital, Gurgaon, have been arrested for raping an 18-year-old employee on the building’s premises last week, police said on Tuesday. Medical examinations confirmed that the woman had been raped. The police identified the duo as Pradeep and Muniraj, her supervisors.
However, the hospital’s authorities said they had no knowledge of the incident and that it did not take place inside the premises. They insisted that all three were employed by a private company to which the hospital had outsourced the housekeeping work.
A case was filed for rape and criminal intimidation after the woman’s family approached the police. In her complaint, the woman said she was assaulted separately by both of them over a span of two hours, once under a staircase, and the second time in a washroom. They also threatened her with severe consequences if she reported the crime.
