Indian sprinter Dharambir Singh has failed a dope test and was stopped from boarding a flight to Rio de Janeiro for the Olympics on Tuesday, The Times of India reported. The 27-year-old was the first Indian male sprinter to qualify for the Olympics in the past 36 years, and was scheduled to participate in the 200-metre event in the games.
Singh is the third Indian athlete in the past two weeks to fail a test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency, after wrestler Narsingh Yadav and shot putter Inderjeet Singh, who both failed two successive dope tests. However, Yadav was later cleared of any wrongdoing by NADA, who said his test was sabotaged.
