Two people were arrested on Monday in connection with the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in east Delhi last week. The duo, whose identity the police have not disclosed, reportedly stalked and harassed her for months.
The suspects were picked up after a friend of the teenager lodged an FIR stating that the duo had raped her and tried to murder her as well, reported The Indian Express. Police told The New Indian Express that the girl mentioned the men during their investigations. “She said that when her friend refused a friendship proposal from one of the stalkers, he got infuriated and threatened to kill her.”
The incident took place on July 28 when the girl was alone at her home. The two allegedly came to her house and murdered her after sexually assaulting her. The girl’s mother found her half-charred body. Initially, it was thought to be a suicide, but an autopsy confirmed sexual assault before she was strangled and her body set on fire, reported NDTV.
