The curfew and restrictions in Kashmir were on Sunday extended to August 5, as the situation in the Valley remained tense, weeks after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed. The curfew will continue in Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian town. Areas under the jurisdiction of five police stations Srinagar will also be under curfew. People have been asked to tread carefully in other parts of the state.
The Hindu reported that the toll in the unrest rose to 49 on Sunday, after one more protestor, Ishfaq Ahmad Dar, 17, succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Mobile internet services remained suspended in parts of the state, though people with postpaid plans were able to connect. Separatist groups have called for the shutdown in the state to continue till August 5.
