At least seven people were killed and another 10 injured after a two-storey building collapsed in Mumbai’s Bhiwandi area on Sunday. The structure, located in Gaibi Nagar, came down at 9.30 am after several hours of heavy rain. At least seven or eight families had been living there.
Rescue teams comprising fire and police officials were sent to the spot, and operations to shift the debris are still on. While the Thane disaster management spokesperson confirmed the number of deaths, more people are feared stuck under the wreckage. The downpour has also been hampering rescue operations, officials said. Thane Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal issued a rain warning on Sunday, asking people to avoid stepping out, PTI reported.
