A local court in Amritsar on Friday granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a defamation case filed against him by Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, reported The Indian Express. The court asked the Aam Aadmi Party chief to furnish a bail bond of Rs 40,000.
Several police officers were present in the court premises as members of AAP and Shiromani Akali Dal gathered in the area ahead of the hearing. Amritsar Police Commissioner Amar Singh Chahal was also present to prevent any untoward incident.
Calling Majithia a "drug lord", Kejriwal dared the state Cabinet minister to arrest him in the next six months, failing which he said he will arrest the SAD leader after that, according to Economic Times. The state is going for Assembly polls in 2017.
On May 20, Majithia had filed a defamation suit against three AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, accusing them of making false allegations and statements against the ruling party member to tarnish his image for political gains, reported Hindustan Times.
