Bengaluru came to a standstill on Friday morning as torrential rain lashed the city. Several arterial roads such as Hosur Main Road and areas in Electronic City were flooded after a heavy downpour since Thursday night. The Met department said the rain would continue till August 1.

According to The Hindu, the uprooting of trees and wall collapses only made matters worse. The control rooms were inundated by calls from citizens, as several of them were stranded in different areas.

The worst affected was the Bommanahalli zone. Areas such as Hulimavu, Arekere area near Bannerhatta road, Bommanahalli-Silkboard and Bellandur are also under water. The incessant rain over the past two days flooded the road that leads to Yemalur Tech Park. The Bellandur lake has reportedly been overflowing since Wednesday, inundating the nearby areas, reported The New Minute.

According to The Times of India, many houses were flooded with knee-deep water. Mayor Manjunath Reddy said the civic body has been asked to conduct an inspection of the area. Fire and Emergency Service personnel, who were pressed into service on Friday morning, rescued several stranded residents. The fire department also deployed boats to move people out of flooded areas.

Gurgaon has been facing a similar situation with parts of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway submerged in knee-deep water. The police warned Delhi residents against coming to the area on Friday.
