Director Chaitanya Tamhane, whose debut feature film Court premiered at the 71st Venice Film Festival and also won the Venice Lion of the Future two years ago, has been named one of the jury members for the 73rd edition of the international event. The panel also gets to declare the Venice Short Film Nomination for the European Film Awards 2016.
The overall panel of jury members includes names such as Laurie Anderson, Joshua Oppenheimer, Gemma Arterton, Italian writer Giancarlo De Cataldo, French actor Chiara Mastroianni, German actor Nina Hoss, Venezuelan director Lorenzo Vigas and Chinese actor, director and singer Zhao Wei. Sam Mendes is the jury president.
This year’s festival will begin on August 31 and conclude on September 10, and will be dedicated to late directors Abbas Kiarostami and Michael Cimino. Works by both of them will be shown as part of the event.
